Let Them Eat Cake! – 10 Things Every Wedding Couple Should Consider Before Ordering Their Dream Cake

Ah yes, the wedding cake.
That towering, frosted beacon of love and sponge that says, “We made it through table plans and mother-in-law opinions , now pass the fork.”
But before you swan-dive into cake glory, here are 10 things (yes, TEN) to keep in mind when ordering your dream wedding cake and we promise to keep it as fun and frosting-filled as possible.
1. Guest List vs Cake Slice Maths

You may be head-over-heels in love, but even love can’t stretch a single-tier cake to feed 120 people. Work out how many guests you’ve got and whether they’re the “one polite nibble” type or “take-home-a-box” kind of crew.
Your cake size should match the party size (plus a slice or three for yourselves at midnight, obviously).
2. Flavour Adventures
You don’t need to choose between Vanilla and chocolate, you can have both. And red velvet. And a cheeky salted caramel. Each tier can have its own personality, just like your bridal party. Pick flavours you love, not just what “everyone else does.” (Looking at you, fruitcake.)
3. Allergy Avoidance 101
We love drama at weddings, just not the medical kind.
Make sure you tell your cake maker about any allergy requirements. A few gluten-free cupcakes or a dairy-free mini cake will go a long way in keeping your guests happy, healthy, and not sneaking out to find a banana.
4. Your Cake’s VIP Spot

The cake deserves better than being shoved in a dark corner next to the DJ’s speakers or a stack of folding chairs. Find it a beautiful spot, a sturdy table, lovely lighting, some floral pizzazz. Bonus points if it’s not directly under an air vent or near an open window in July.
5. Timing the Cake-Cutting

When do you want to slice and smile for the cameras? Right after dinner? Before the dancing begins? During cocktail hour when no one is looking? Timing matters. not just for photos, but for serving it fresh and keeping it from melting if it’s buttercream-based. Your photographer will likely whisk yo off for a fake cake cutting pic or two then its up to you if you want the venue slicing it and serving or keep on display….we recommend cutting and serving as early as possible as there’s more chance of it being eaten.
Noone thinks yum, lets have a beer and some cake…or maybe they do! You know your guests!
6. Stalking Your Cake Maker (In a Cute Way)
Before you commit, do some research. Check out their website, social media, reviews, stalk responsibly, of course.
Look at their previous designs to make sure their style matches your vision. If you’re dreaming of sleek and modern and their vibe is rustic and floral, it might not be a match made in icing heaven.
7. Tasting, Tasting, 1–2–3

This is, hands-down, the best part of wedding planning. The cake tasting. Make it a date. Bring napkins. Sample the goods. You want a cake that not only looks like a dream but tastes like one too. No one ever remembers the chair covers, they will remember a dry sponge.
8. Designing Your Edible Centrepiece
Think of your cake as part of your wedding decor. Match it to your colours, your flowers, even your outfits.
Want gold leaf and fresh roses? Let’s do it.

Want a Harry Potter cake disguised as a romantic blush-tiered beauty? We’re on board.
Just know what vibe you’re going for, and your cake maker can work their magic.
9. Delivery Details (a.k.a. Don’t Let Uncle Pete Drive It)
Transporting a wedding cake is a delicate art, best left to professionals, not your cousin with a bumpy car and a loose elbow.
We dont allow collection unless its a single tier cake or dummy cake. Make sure you’ve agreed on who’s delivering it, where it’s going, and when. You’d be surprised how many cakes have taken accidental detours thanks to poor planning.
10. Don’t Leave It Last-Minute
You’d be amazed how many couples leave the cake until the very end of the to-do list, somewhere between “pack spare socks” and “order confetti.”
The earlier you book, the better. Cake makers get busy, The good ones, the ones everyone wants, especially in peak wedding season. Lock in your spot with a deposit and breathe a sugary sigh of relief.
Final Icing on the Cake? Your wedding cake is more than a dessert, it’s part of your story, your style, and your big day memories. Make it delicious. Make it gorgeous. And most importantly, make it you. And if you need help? I’m right here, ready with ideas, tips, and samples galore. Now go on, lovebirds, plan boldly and eat cake joyfully.
